Paulina Silva
b. 1990 | Chile
Paulina Silva Chala is an artist, author, and curator who lives and works in Granada, Spain. Silva graduated with a degree in Fine Art from PUC Chile, and continued her education with a master’s degree in visual and graphic arts, focused on drawing, painting, and engraving. Alongside her artistic practice, she has a profound interest in psychology. Since 2012, Silva has focused on researching the central constructs and codes that underlie the human psyche, and the interpretation of experience, pursuing studies in Neuropsychology and Pedagogy.
Her works invite the viewer to question reality from a feminine perspective, with a strong emphasis on questions and answers that arise from the study of thought, the subconscious and memory. Her goal is to expose and question societal narratives around femininity, confronting them with stories and experiences women discover and share as they come of age. Oscillating between the worlds of engraving, painting, and drawing, she is on a constant quest to understand creativity and representation from her own experience, while putting women at the forefront. Silva captures women's stories, feelings and even secrets in her works, opening a window of opportunity for viewers to look at the world from this perspective. Her work reflects an everyday life full of questions about the environment, the behavior of nature, time, and the female body.
Silva has twice exhibited in the Chilean national contemporary art fair, FAXXI, and in other art fairs, galleries, and institutions in Argentina, Peru, Colombia, Spain, and Germany. Her books have been published in Spain and France, and she is curator at La Raíz Espacio de Arte, an art gallery with a program focused on Latin-American and Andalusian artists.
