Carlos Herraiz

Carlos Herraiz was born in Barcelona in 1995. He moved to Edinburgh at the age of eighteen, where he began his artistic career at Leith School of Art. It was there that a series of concerns and ideas began to emerge about the passage of time, absence and presence, and the mark we leave as humans on our environment. Through figurative painting, Carlos explored these concepts while studying at the Glasgow School of Art and later at the Barcelona Academy of Art.

These themes are still very much present in his current work after spending a year as an artist in residence at Leith School of Art, then completing residencies in Kavala (Greece), Berlin and South Africa. The desire to continue to evolve his work led him to seek a more abstract approach to painting and a constant exploration of materials.
