LA TENDRESA
Miriam Dema

08.04.2025 - 13.05.2025
Carrer Monistrol 21, 08012 Barcelona

Some gestures are born from the desire to approach, to offer, to melt into another. They carry their own weight, their warmth, and a tenderness that needs no words to be understood.

In ‘la tendresa’, Miriam Dema explores the language of touch. These works arise from the need to belong, to connect, to feel held within another’s presence. They don’t tell stories; they propose encounters.

Each piece begins with a simple line drawing, shaped by memory or observation. From there, the fabric is no neutral surface but a collaborator; a space of interaction that responds to gesture, movement, and emotion. Like touch, these materials are porous and alive. The lines flow freely, charged with presence. They don’t depict posed bodies, but sensations: fleeting moments of intimacy, of silent recognition. Light settles gently over these compositions, tinted with the colors of night: muted blues, softened mauves, and the warm glow of skin against skin.

Tenderness lives in the space where one self meets another. While earlier works found intimacy around the table, ‘la tendresa’ shifts into the space between bodies, toward the intuitive choreography of care that exists in nearness, in soft pressure, in shared breath. This isn’t a departure from Dema’s practice but a deepening. The focus moves away from household rituals and into presence itself—into the immediate warmth of being close.

The exhibition space echoes this intimacy. Works of different formats invite different kinds of attention. Some draw us in with their stillness; others ask for distance. The atmosphere is soft and dimmed, like entering a room that asks you to slow down. In that hushed light, the viewer is not positioned in front of the work but drawn into its pulse. We’re not asked to interpret, but to feel.

In ‘la tendresa’, touch becomes a world of its own; weight, skin, warmth, closeness. A suspended moment, where a pulse passes from one body to another.
